I’d like to introduce you to Jane Dormer, the Duchess of Feria (1538-1612.) She was born into privilege which landed her the role of Lady-In-Waiting for Queen Mary I. Despite the 20 year age gap, Jane became one of the Queen’s closest friends. I imagine that getting close to a woman nicknamed “Bloody Mary” was… um… tricky.
Because of her strong Catholic faith, Jane was eventually exiled to Spain where she became a bit of a crusader for banished Catholics.
What makes Jane a little more interesting was the fact that she designed her own coffin three years ahead of her death and kept it in her house.
